It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I am so excited for Christmas this year.  Most of my family will be here and we are all filled with excitement for our new addition.  Some will disagree with me, but it feels a little weird with no snow on the ground.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that we wake up Christmas morning with lots of snow!

DIY: Holiday Decor

I originally made these decorations with the intention to hang them in one of our doorways, but they turned out to be too heavy so I put them on our TV stand and I love them there!  This project was super easy and cheap!  I just bought styrofoam balls and the beads from Walmart and used a glue gun to put it all together.

A Crafty Christmas: DIY Wreath

Please excuse my absence from the blog world.  I have been pretty busy these days and Aaron and I have been having a lot of time off together so our weeks have been filled with running errands and some much needed "us time."

The Holiday season is in full force, well, minus the snow but I'm not really complaining about that.  We had a nice Thanksgiving at our house.  Very simple, low key, and TONS of food.  I'm used to seeing my mom cook a 20 lb.+ turkey for 15+ people so I think I thought that's what I was supposed to do for only 6 people.  WRONG!  We had lots of yummy left overs.

I was already in the Christmas present buying swing of things before Turkey Day since I know I'm not going to want to roam the mall for hours while 39 weeks pregnant.  I made my sister come with me to the mall at midnight for Black Friday Sales.  WORST IDEA EVER...sorry Marg!  So crowded and annoying. Never again.

Anyways, I am totally in the Christmas spirit this year especially since most of my family will be here for it... Caitlin and Andrew, it's not too late to buy plane tickets :)  It seems like everyone is being crafty these days and there are so many ideas out there that inspire me.  I decided to make our own wreath for the front door.  Here's it is followed by a "How To"...What do you think?

Left to Right, Top to Bottom
{1.  Cut 2"-3" burlap strips and wrap around styrofoam wreath.  2.  Wreath should look like this after wrapping burlap.  3.  I picked these colors to make my felt flowers.  Tutorial on how to make flowers here.  4.  I chose to glue gun my flowers in a cluster and off centered.  5.  I found these branches at Michaels with little beads at the ends and added them to the wreath to add a little pop of color and texture.}

And here is a picture of my dinning room table on Thanksgiving.  I wish I took more, especially of all of the food.  Maybe next year.

Kids Snacks can be for Adults too!

I recently got a new phone, mainly because my camera on the old was broken and I had been managing without it for many months.  I finally got to see all of the pictures found some classics.
I came across one that made my mouth water.  About a year ago I made some creative kids snacks with some kids I was babysitting and I remember enjoying it so much, and now my pregnant self just has to have it...I've been addicted to bananas lately.

Caterpillar Banana from the "Creative Snacks" book.

All you need:
- Banana
- Stick pretzels
- Peanut Butter
- Coconut flakes
- Raisins
Hopefuly the picture explains how you should put it all together :)

DIY Thank You Cards: Paper Source

I can't really take full credit for making these "Thank You" cards because I bought a kit from Paper Source that had all of the envelopes, cards, trimmings, and scraps that were pretty much all color coordinated.  I felt like I was totally cheating so I took everything out of the box and mixed it all together to force creativity on myself.  It's so easy to just go to a store and pick out a card, but its so much more fun to make them yourself (if you have the time.)  Well, at least I think so.  Next time, no kit :)

DIY: Nursery Rocker

I recently bought an old rocking chair from a thrift store and gave it a simple face lift before I put it in the babies room.  I was really torn between buying an expensive rocker/glider or making a little work for myself in finding something at a thrift store that I could fix up.  I went with the thrift store option and luckily I found a rocking chair that needed very little TLC, just a little sandpaper and some spray paint.  I'm so glad I did this because it was so cheap ($50 for rocker and $10 for 2 cans of paint... already had a sander) and I feel like I added more of a personal touch to the room.  It feels like time is flying by so fast and this baby will be here so soon.  I'm glad I pretty much have the nursery done so I don't have to worry about it last minute.  I still have some finishing touches to do after baby is born for gender specific decorations and my brother, Conlan, is making me a bookshelf!  Although, I should probably double check on that with him...college students aren't so trustworthy :)

So far.  Should have probably moved the tub mat from under the crib before I took this...oh well.

Feeling Orange

Today, Aaron got vacation time for next year, so it looks like we will be headed to CA in June!  I am hoping the thought of us (all three of us) being under the warm CA sun will get me through the cold MA winter.  I guess I have a few other things to keep me happy and excited during the winter this year:)
When I think of summer I think of bright warm colors, like the color orange.  Orange can really add character to a dull room or brighten up an outfit.

What color do you like to add to a dull space or outfit?

I'm a lucky girl

Both of my baby showers were great.  We got so many amazing gifts and I am so thankful for each and every one of them.  I can't wait for the baby to be here so I can love on him/her and put all of the goodies to use.  Here are a few key essentials we got.  I have to say, the best gift of all was the one my mom gave me, my grandmas baby bracelet.  Thanks mom:)

Comfort vs. Glam Halloween

How was everyone's Halloween weekend?  I've seen some great costumes online and have heard of some even better ones.
I'll be on a plane back to Boston this year on Halloween so I will not be dressing up, but if I were I would definitely choose comfort, like my brothers girlfriend Caitlin, over a glammed out costume like Kim Kardashians Poison Ivy costume (although I do love it).

These shoes were made for walkin'...

I found my first pair of walking shoes while I was going through my "box" at my parents house.  My mom told me I was walking at 9 months.  Isn't that early?    I think they are the perfect little accent to put in the nursery.

Turquoise

I really love Turquoise.  You would know it if you walked into my house, but I think its time for me to start adding a pop here and there.  Too much turquoise is overkill in my opinion, but the right amount can really brighten up a room.
I put together a little collage of some perfect turquoise accents.

1.  I'm thinking about putting this in the nursery. http://sueswink.tumblr.com/post/7166820906

2.  I love a turquoise contrast for a photo shoot.  Green eyes aren't a bad addition either:)  http://www.ellebaileyphotography.com/2011/04/kaden-explorer.html

3.  I love everything about this room.  http://pinterest.com/pin/199895834/

4.  Who doesn't love any color with double c's on it?!  http://pinterest.com/pin/253307301/

5. http://fashionandstyle100.blogspot.com/2011/05/eye-makeup.html

6.  I found this on etsy and I think it would be great for our pantry.

7.  Saw this bike while strolling the streets of Rockport, MA.  http://baileysandthings.blogspot.com/2011/10/rockport-ma.html

8.  I am in the middle of making our headboard and haven't picked out the fabric yet.  I like this solid turquoise(ish) color.  Found on pinterest.com.

9.  I have always wanted an all white kitchen, floors included, but I think the blue stripes are a perfect addition.  http://www.houseofturquoise.com/

Rockport, MA

My parents are in town and a few days ago I took them to Rockport to walk around and do a little shopping.  I have been to Rockport a few other times and love it.  It's a cute little ocean town with neat shops, great coffee, and lots of candy.
